Radical. What does that mean? What does it mean to be radically different?
At the core of Christianity is a radical savior. Jesus was a radical. The very definition of the word radical is “fundamentally affecting the nature of something.” And the good news for us? Jesus came to earth and fundamentally changed the course of this world.
I set up this blog for a few reasons. The first is because my daily life is filled with worldly content, and it is exhausting. I am constantly being fed information for how this world wants me to live my life. From what I eat, to what I read, to where I work, to what I listen to, to where I live, to how I spend my money. Our culture has an unlimited amount of “information” on how I should be going about these things. And all of it is pointing in a single direction. And to be frank, that direction is death. For a while now I have been asking myself “How can I be radically different, how can I be a radical christian in a world full of noise?” So that’s the first reason. To try and answer that question through sharing my daily struggles, challenges, and encouragements.
The second reason is that my sister Allie, who is an inspiration to me and is living out what it looks like to be a radical christian, has a lot of valuable thoughts to share. Allie will likely be writing more of these blogs than I. And believe me, that is a win for all of you.
Lastly, the theme verse that will drive the direction of our blog is Romans 12:2
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
We will be sharing our daily struggles, tests, and encouragements with our family and friends through this blog. And let me be very clear – we are both so imperfect. So I’ll ask for grace as we share. In the verse above, “renewing” is present tense. It is happening now, and it is a constant process that continues throughout our lives. That is such a blessing, but is also means we will never be perfect during our time on earth.
Thank you for reading. Welcome to Radical Road.
