God’s Creation

This is a question I answered from my devotional this morning, “What aspects of creation remind you of God’s care?” Here are mine (a wide open ocean, a frozen lake, fresh falling snow, the sunrise, but more so the sunset, rolling hills and mountain peeks, a quiet lake with the call of a loon, and palm trees, always the palms!) God is so good, so creative. And the story of Jesus, it all started at the very beginning. It all started with the light of this world and the goodness of God’s creation. I love this verse in Genesis:

God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31

But, the first 2 verses, when connected to the first verses in John, they blow my mind. The way they are connected, the evidence of Jesus then and now in our lives today is crazy.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2

This is where I sidetrack and leave you in suspense for more because the enemy is AT WORK in me. Not only do I currently have self-doubt, body-shaming, FOMO, and constant questioning, but I also have not been able to truly journal lately. I have not been able to get my thoughts from God on to paper. It has been a hot mess in my brain, cluttered and unclear. Then, this morning, I finally had some good connection, some good flow going…but, had to abruptly stop because naturally I was running late for work. So, I stopped mid-thought and told myself I would be back tonight. I just spent an hour on instagram reels sending my friend another 13 reels she will have to watch in the morning. But, the good news is, I fought off the enemy with God’s strength and I hopped back into my bible, into writing my thoughts down. And now we are back to where I left of…

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:1-4

And then a little later on in John:

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

You see, Jesus was with us all along. He was there at the beginning. Then the most miraculous moment occurred, when our God came down to dwell among us. He literally became flesh, so that we could see God’s character in Him more clearly. So we could have our God walk through the same trials that we do. So that He would live a perfect life, die for our sins, take back the keys of death, and RISE AGAIN. And man, I don’t know what you’re walking through, but if that doesn’t give you hope then you better call me up so I can pray for you. Because our God is for you. Our God is among you. Our God poured His heart out FOR YOU! You are worthy of all the joy and all the peace that He has to offer you on this side of heaven. God made you and He called you good. And He is with you today. He loves you, today.

Maybe my heart is so welled up with all of that truth because I needed to hear it as much as you did. But, today, I was just reminded so much of who God is, of His character and His love. I saw Him in the endless rolling waves of the ocean as I pounded out another run. I saw Him in the rising sun behind the West Maui mountains as I drove in late to work. I saw Him in the miracle of birth as His loving arms covered my best friend and her brand new sweet baby boy (just call me AUNTIE from here on out!) And as I settled into my bible tonight, I saw Him again in the person Jesus was as He walked this earth. Our God is gentle, powerful, all-covering, creative, endless, and loving. Our God gives us hope even when there is none to be had in our circumstances. And I pray that this Christmas season you see God for who He is. I pray you see the story of a baby in a manger in a whole new light. I pray you feel God’s presence radiate through your soul, your work place, and your home. You see, we all need more love, hope, and light and the only place we can truly find that is in Jesus. And I pray for you to find that hope, that love, and that light in HIM this Christmas season.

Love and blessings,

  1. Beautiful. As usual. Such a good reminder for us all. It makes me wonder why do we keep needing to remind ourselves of Gods love and goodness and that our hope is in Him?!?

  2. So refreshing to read your candid thoughts on God’s unfailing character, Allie! I just want to give you a big hug!!! The WORD: JESUS has been with us all along. He was at creation when we were declared “very good”. He lived among us to wrap His atms around us & give us hope as He poured His heart out for us. What amazing love we have standing right next to us cheering us on with undeniable strength! Thanks for the reminder to stop & see HIM in the little things that are really some pretty big things: endless rolling waves, & I add… intense rays of the sun & the carefree gaunt of a sandhill crane family. Oh, how that makes me feel his presence radiate through my soul. Jesus truly is the only place to find lasting peace, hope, love, light. Hugs 🤗 🌾
