In the Psalms

My favorite place to be when the world feels dark and heavy, or even in my own personal life walking through sorrow or grief is in the Psalms. There is just something about the realness in them, the human heart behind each poem. They are deep in truth and meaning. But, my favorite part of reading the Psalms is how intimately close we can get to God through them.

When I lost my cousin Jacob and I walked through a season of grief and loneliness, I spent my days immersed in the Psalms. Just reading. Just seeking God. And I will tell you, I have never experienced such intimacy with Him as I did in those months. God revealed Himself to me, over and over again.

The Psalms are saturated with God’s Devine nature. One moment we have David crying out to God and then in the next we have this:

But I trust in your unfailing love, my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the LORD’s praise for he has been good to me. Psalm 13: 5-6

  • God’s love is unfailing.
  • God saves.
  • God is good.

Three truths of God’s character. And truths David says with confidence, despite his circumstances. Why? Because he has seen God’s faithfulness in his life.

“Even when the path is unclear, we can remain rooted in this truth: there is a greater plan unfolding beyond the veil of our limited understanding.” ~Tamar Peterson

Ultimately there is so much that we don’t know. Both here on earth and in what is unfolding with God’s Devine plan. We aren’t supposed to know it all or be aware of it all. There is a spiritual war at work; there is a mystery to God, to His plan for the world, for humanity, for us. But, He is God, He is sovereign, and His plan, it is Devine. We can 1000% trust in that. This is one example of hundreds from the Psalms. But, don’t take my word for it…go and read for yourself. I promise you, that you will find God’s goodness in these words; you will find how much you are loved by Him, and you will be witness to how sovereign He is. He is the ONLY truth we can hope in.

“Yet, reading the Bible confirms for us that, for all its ineffability, the Devine Plan is always working for the ultimate good of the world.” ~Tamar Peterson

Trust that. Trust God. Get off the news. Get off social media. Put the phone down. Read the Bible.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
